Snobs Creek Conservation Hatchery Opening

Friday 3rd May, four members of the Nathalia Angling Club, Marcel, Grub, Joe and Roland went to Eildon for the official opening of the Snobs Creek Conservation Hatchery which will support the ‘10 in Ten’ plan to recover 10 threatened aquatic species in 10 years including galaxias, gudgeon, blackfish, freshwater mussels and several varieties of crayfish.

  

The opening commenced with a smoking ceremony by Taungurung Land and Water Council’s Shane Monk, speakers were MP Steve Dimopoulos, Aust. Threatened Species Commissioner, Dr Fiona Fraser and Victorian Fisheries Authority Chair Graeme Dear.

 

Angling club members were given a comprehensive tour of the entire Snobs Creek facility by Frederick, one of the highlights was the collection of eggs from Chinook Salmon brood stock and watching them hatch. The day ended with a sneak preview of a short film and interview by Dr Fiona Fraser.
